About Us

Who We are!

Hello! I’m Mary Thurlow, and I live in the charming town of Mills, MA, nestled among several other “M” towns—Medway, Medfield, and Mendon. I’m here to share my passion for the vibrant and creative world of tie-dyeing. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, I’m excited to show you that tie-dyeing isn’t just about messy hands and the traditional rainbow swirl. Yes, the dye does come off your fingers after a few days (a little nail polish remover works wonders), and trust me, it doesn’t have to be as messy as you might think!

I absolutely love guiding people through the process of tie-dyeing and helping them unlock their own creativity. For me, it's about more than just color and fabric; it’s about experimenting with new techniques, trying out unconventional methods, and constantly pushing the boundaries of what can be done with dye. It’s always such a thrill to open up your fabric the morning after a project and see what’s emerged—there’s nothing like it!

My latest projects have included everything from dyeing rayon dresses (perfect for summer) to ice-dyeing fabric for a friend’s quilt. I enjoy blending different colors—like mixing fuchsia, red, and peach—and seeing how the dyes interact. And when I’m not experimenting with colors, I’m folding, clamping, and using various techniques like bleach painting and low-water immersion to create unique designs.

I also love sharing what I’ve learned with others. Whether through one-hour talks, guided workshops, or multi-day sessions, I enjoy helping people get comfortable with the process of dyeing and fabric manipulation. My classes are about more than just learning a craft—they’re about creating an experience.

What can you expect from one of my workshops? A relaxing and fun environment where you can let your creativity flow. I provide all the materials and guide you step-by-step through the process. I’ve got all the “toys” for clamping, tying, folding, and dyeing, and I’m always experimenting with new ways to make your project stand out. You’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind piece of art and a new appreciation for the art of fabric dyeing.

So, whether you’re looking to create a tie-dye masterpiece or just have some fun with fabric, I’m here to show you how! I can’t wait to meet you and share the magic of tie-dyeing with you.
